A heavyweight tilt between ex-UFC fighter Yorgan De Castro and Shaun Asher is in the works for Eagle FC 44 on Jan. 28.

The match-up was first reported by sources at CagesidePress. Hosted in Miami, FL., the fight will take place inside of the FLXcast Arena. In addition, fans and viewers can enjoy the show streaming live on the FLXcast app. Shortly after the initial report, Yorgan De Castro confirmed that he indeed signed with Eagle FC and has a fight lined up already.

Prior to signing a multi-fight deal with Eagle FC, De Castro got back in the win column with a decision victory against Danyelle Williams at CES 65 in November. De Castro earned his single UFC win back in 2019. The 34-year-old starched Justin Tafa with a counter right that earned him an emphatic knockout in the first round.

Following his Tafa victory, De Castro struggled to gather momentum in the UFC’s heavyweight division. De Castro’s performance against Tafa earned him a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus in his debut at UFC 243.

De Castro would come up short in his next three UFC bouts before the promotion parted ways with the heavyweight. On the other hand, Shaun Asher is returning to action after absorbing a stoppage loss to Steve Mowry at Bellator 257 in April.

While Asher was unable to secure victory, that was his in fact his professional debut. With a massive fight against De Castro in Khabib Nurmagomedov’s fighting promotion, surely some extra heat will ignite around the fight card in due time.

The Eagle FC 44 card continues to develop and Nurmagomedov’s promotion is steadily announcing details pertaining to weight classes and pay structure. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva being removed from the main event caused the promotion to seek out a replacement fighter in Sergei Kharitonov a few weeks ago.

It’s apparent that Khabib Nurmagomedov is going all-in at this point and with the recent signing of Kevin Lee, perhaps his fighting promotion could have a major impact on the sport of MMA one day.

With the addition of Yorgan De Castro and Shaun Asher to the Eagle FC 44 card, here is the current lineup of fights listed below.

  • Tyrone Spong vs. Sergei Kharitonov
  • Gabriel Checco vs. Rashad Evans
  • Ray Borg vs. Cody Gibson
  • Renan Barao vs. Horacio Gutierrez
  • John Howard vs. Ramazan Kuramagomedov
  • Miles Hunsinger vs. Demarques Jackson
  • Shaun Asher vs. Yorgan De Castro

Do you think Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Eagle FC fighting promotion can become a serious player alongside the UFC and Bellator?
