Yoel Romero returns to the Bellator cage this May looking to earn his first victory with the promotion when he faces kickboxing great, Melvin Manhoef.
The promotion announced the 205-pound match-up on Thursday. Manhoef, 45, will look to regather momentum after enduring a TKO loss via elbows to Corey Anderson back in Nov. of 2020. Meanwhile, “The Soldier Of God” is aiming to capture his first win under the Bellator banner when the event kicks off in May.
The light heavyweight bout will serve as the co-main event at the Bellator Paris, France card. In addition, the venue is also set and will take place inside the Accor Arena.

Yoel Romero Looking for his First Win with Bellator
Romero vs. Manhoef will serve under Ryan Bader and Cheick Kongo main event who fight for the Bellator heavyweight world title later that night. After Romero, 44, lost a split decision to Phil Davis last September, the former UFC title challenger is determined to gather steam with his new promotion.
“The Soldier Of God” left the UFC having lost four of his last five fights. In 2018, Romero raised eyebrows after demolishing former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold with punches in round three to secure a TKO victory. Aside from a grappling bout outside of the UFC against Chris Barnett, that was Yoel Romero’s last octagon win.
While he put up a valiant effort against “Mr. Wonderful” when they met at Bellator 266, it was Davis who was able to implore his game plan more effectively against the UFC veteran. During his tenure with the UFC, Romero faced some elite-level competition. Romero fought Robert Whittaker 2X, Paulo Costa, and Israel Adesanya and was never finished in any of those defeats.
Before taking a loss to Corey Anderson, Manhoef compiled a 4-fight winning streak with Bellator. Despite getting a bit older, Manhoef is a puzzling challenge on the feet and packs a lot of fight-ending power.
With the addition, the current Bellator Paris scheduled for May 6 lineup includes:
- Ryan Bader vs. Cheick Kongo [C]
- Melvin Manhoef vs. Yoel Romero
- Soren Bak vs. Saul Rogers
- Gavin Hughes vs. Yves Landu
