Hold onto your seats. This weekend at UFC San Antonio, the hot streak of premium action inside the Octagon continues with a loaded card and two fights with potential title implications. In the main event, No.3 Marlon “Chito” Vera and No.5 Cory Sandhagen meet in a bantamweight collision that could see one of them fighting for the belt soon. Serving as the co-main event is the timeless Holly Holm, ranked third in the women’s bantamweight division and looking to earn the opportunity to reclaim the belt that she lost years ago. To do so, she has to fend off No.6 Yana Santos in the Alamo City.

Torres was scheduled to take on Trey Ogden in a lightweight contest, while Vidal was set to open the night against Hailey Cowan.
Main Event Preview
After defeating Petr Yan at UFC Las Vegas, Merab Dvalishvili jumped to the top of the challengers list for Aljamain Sterling in the bantamweight division. Dvalishvili’s win also worked to help Vera (20-7-1) as he was elevated to the third spot in line. Headlining UFC San Antonio this weekend opposite Sandhagen (15-4-0), Vera is one step closer to earning his first title opportunity since joining the UFC in 2014.
Riding a four-fight winning streak, Vera has the momentum going into Saturday’s bout. In his last time out, “Chito” scored a fourth-round knockout of Dominick Cruz as the pair headlined fight night. The win also earned him a Performance of the Night bonus and counted as his second stoppage in his last three fights. Power isn’t all he has, however, as his eight career knockout wins are balanced evenly by his eight submission wins as well. The underdog at the betting window, Vera will need to be in his bag.
Unlike his opponent, Sandhagen has already had his shot at the division title – an interim opportunity against Yan at UFC 267 in 2021. The two went the distance but, for the second consecutive time, the decision didn’t favor “The Sandman”. Frankly put – he needs to put his challengers to sleep, and that’s exactly what he’ll be looking to do to Vera, something that hasn’t been done in Vera’s UFC career.
