The historic UFC 264 triology event between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is in the books.

The Louisiana native pulled it off once again but this time the win was marred with a bit of controversy. In particular, in the first and only round, the pace was chaotic, and it seemed like the old McGregor was back. Launching a couple of wild kicks reminiscent of their first encounter, the superstar’s pace was near go-for-broke.

The first fight between McGregor and Poirier was nearly seven years ago that saw the Irishman pull off the knockout victory in just over 90-seconds. Years later, on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, McGregor and “The Diamond” rematched only for Poirier to run away with the fight and knock “The Notorious” out in the second round after softening him up with leg kicks.

McGregor Suffers Gruesome Injury

Prior to the fight, many fans and pundits alike speculated that McGregor’s only chance was to dispatch Poirier in the first five minutes or they thought he wouldn’t get the job done. It turned out to be true, although the injury made for an interesting talking point for McGregor and his army-like fan base.

By the end of the first round, it was unclear what exactly happened, although McGregor’s leg appeared to break in the midst of all the action. It was later revealed that McGregor suffered a broken tibia. The fight was subsequently called off via doctor stoppage at the end of round one.

After the madness took place, pros took to Twitter to talk about the legendary night at UFC 264.

Do you think McGregor’s claims of a possible fourth fight with Dustin Poirier have any merit?
