Last year, the UFC indicated that there would be around sixty cuts within the organization, and Spike Carlyle is one of them. On Monday, the 27-year old “The Alpha Ginger” announced on Instagram that he indeed is released by the UFC. While the bruting Carlyle is an entertaining show, he struggles in the UFC.
Rachel Ostovich, Yoel Romero, as well as the “TUF Brazil” winner, Antonio Carlos Junior are getting the ax. Since the promotion is willing to let go of big names, it raises concerns. Not to mention, there is some inconsistency as to how they decide to retain or let go of fighters. Nonetheless, losing the exciting brawler, Carlyle will not go unnoticed.
Say Goodbye to Spike Carlyle…For Now
Carlyle showed his skills against the tough Billy Quarantillo. The featherweight scrap was frenetic and insane, and both athletes took damage yet Carlyle underlined his hyper-aggressive style. In fact, as the ten-second clap echoed through the cage, “The Alpha Ginger” turned his back to his opponent and walked back to the cage. Following that, Quarantillo clipped him with a huge bomb and sent him to the corner wobbled. Even though the bout between Quarantillo ended in a loss, as a result, he earned himself a name inside the cage.
In the end, Carlyle came up short against another tough out in, Bill Algeo. While he is cut from the UFC right now, his fun style may land him back in the octagon in the future. Since there is a flurry of cuts on the roster abound, this is just one of the many to come. It is unfortunate that two consecutive losses are enough to get released, but the pandemic has affected everyone.
