Shane Burgos is upset with his UFC 262 TKO loss to Edson Barboza on Saturday night.
Opening up the pay-per-view card, Burgos and Barboza were to meet in a highly-anticipated fight that many assumed would be Fight of the Night. It was also a close fight on paper and after two rounds, it was super competitive with the fight likely being 1-1.
In the third round, however, Barboza landed a big shot that Burgos appeared to take well. Yet, seconds after the shot landed, he began to stumble and ended up falling and being knocked out. It was a weird KO for many, and after the result, Burgos took to Instagram to release a statement on the fight.
“Overwhelmed by all the love and support I’ve been getting. This sport can bring the highest highs of highs and the lowest of lows. Disappointed is an understatement for how I’m feeling but it is what it is, all I can do is learn and grow from it. Gonna take some time off to spend with my wife and daughters but excited to get back in there later in the year and show a better version of myself. It was an honor to share the cage with @edsonbarbozajr it was his night and he has all my respect! Thank u to my team, family, friends, and all the fans for the support. This is all part of God’s plan and I trust it. I will keep chasing greatness,” Burgos wrote on Instagram.
Shane Burgos is now on a two-fight losing streak after the TKO loss to Barboza as he suffered a decision loss to Josh Emmett last June. Despite the back-to-back setbacks, he still remains a top-15 featherweight and can beat anyone on any given night. He also took home a $75K Fight of the Night bonus for his efforts on Saturday night.
