Sarah Kaufman is no longer with the PFL.
Last season, the former Strikeforce and Invicta FC bantamweight champion signed with the PFL and moved up to lightweight. It was a big signing and many figured we would see Kaufman vs. Kayla Harrison in the finals. However, that was not the case as the Canadian lost to Larissa Pacheco in the semis and has now requested her release.
“I’m actually not with the PFL, and I asked to be released, you know, 155 is a very large division for me,” Kaufman said on Octagon Outlook on Line Movement. “I mean, right now I’m sitting under 150. You know I’ve been trying to stay a little bit lower so that if something comes up, I’m in that situation that we talked about earlier, where taking opportunities where they come, be ready, be prepared, be in shape.”
“155 I mean I wasn’t getting anywhere. I was trying to keep weight on when I was fighting in the PFL last season; it was a great opportunity,” Kaufman continued. “I really did enjoy fighting for them but I want to finish my career in a place where I can be the best I can be and that’s not 155, that’s at 135. I’m so confident in my skill sets. I know that I could be the world champion at my weight class, given the opportunity so that’s just where I want to go. My career is at 135.”
Kaufman has not fought since she lost to Pacheco in October of 2019. The Canadian is 21-5 and one no-contest in her career. She holds notable wins over Leslie Smith, Liz Carmouche, Alexis Davis, Miesha Tate, and Roxanne Modafferi among countless others. She also fought Valentina Shevchenko to a split decision loss and fought Ronda Rousey.
Where Kaufman will sign with is uncertain. She could very well go back to the UFC or perhaps move up to featherweight to sign with Bellator. Regardless, there will likely be a lot of options for the Canadian in free agency.
