A pair of welterweight finishers will toe the line at a UFC event on October 9.
Randy Brown and Jared Gooden will meet in the Octagon on October 9 inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both fighters announced the fight on their social media platforms, although it appears that Brown was first to reveal the news on his Twitch channel.
Brown, 7-4 in the UFC has struggled with consistency but recently opened the eyes of many in his last performance on the huge PPV card featuring, UFC 261: Usman vs. Masvidal 2. Brown was tasked with taking on a game contender in Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira. The fight was absolute madness while it lasted but ultimately saw Brown level up, and submit Oliveira with an unorthodox choke. In particular, the books have it down as a one-arm rear-naked choke. Nonetheless, it’s safe to say his ability to threaten submissions is next level and very opportunistic.
After his first-round submission over “Cowboy” in April, Brown will look to start a longstanding winning streak he has struggled to attain thus far in his UFC tenure.
A Titan FC mainstay, Gooden has also struggled to put a solid streak together within the 170-pound UFC weight class. With losses against Alan Jouban and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, the American was never given an easy fight. In his third Octagon appearance, Gooden proved why he belonged on the big stage and lit up the UFC APEX. The 31-year old nicknamed “Nitetrain” showed why he got the name, as he put his last foe, Niklas Stolze asleep with a nasty right cross.
