UFC staple Alex Oliveira is back to take on fellow welterweight Randy Brown in a rescheduled fight bound for UFC 261.
Following a press release on Wednesday from the UFC brass and ESPN, the organization announced that “Cowboy” Oliveira will take on Brown on April 17. While the two were slated to fight last month, the fight ultimately got pushed back because Brown withdrew from the fight for reasons that were not disclosed. Despite the mishap, Brown has proven himself inside the octagon with a well-rounded game. Overall, the six-foot-three welterweight is looking to get back on track after a brutal TKO loss to Vicente Luque.
Randy Brown vs. Alex Oliveira Set For UFC 261 – Welterweight Fire
Since both fighters are coming off tough losses, this pairing makes all the sense in the world. Prior to the matchup, the Brazilian cowboy struggled against Shavkat Rakhmonov’s wrestling entries which allowed the Russian to take over the fight. However, prior to that, Oliveira was on fire. In particular, the welterweight took out Max Griffin in a razor-close split decision. Then, after that nail-biter, the Brazilian scored a dominant unanimous decision over Peter Sobotta.
On the other hand, Brown presents a unique challenge inside the octagon. Specifically, the American’s heavy hands and knees are often his go-to weapons of choice. However, given the versatility of Oliveira, each athlete will have to fight tentatively as they both are potent finishers. Not to mention, each athlete is very capable on the feet and on the ground.
