Dana White has high expectations for Julianna Peña vs. Amanda Nunes 2.
In the co-main event of UFC 269, Peña surprised many as she submitted Nunes in the second round to become the new champion. It was a historic upset and many pegged it as one of the biggest of all time.
Now, according to White, Nunes wants time to figure out what happened to her body as she says her body locked and almost shut down on her in there.
“I talked to her that night [she lost to Julianna Peña], and she said she can’t explain it, that her body locked up on her. She couldn’t do anything,” White said to ESPN. “She doesn’t understand what happened. She wants to find out. She’s going to dive in and talk to performance coaches and find out what happened to her. She came out and started going after Julianna, and the thing about Julianna is that she had it in her mind she was going to win that fight. She put pressure on Amanda and kept coming forward and did what it took to win the fight.”
Julianna Peña vs. Amanda Nunes 2 ‘Will Be The Biggest Women’s Fight Of All-Time’ Says Dana White
Once Julianna Peña beat Amanda Nunes however, it set up the rematch which Dana White believes will be one of the biggest women’s MMA fights ever. For the longest time, none of Nunes’ fights were close so people didn’t care to watch as they figured she would win. Yet, with Peña pulling off the upset, the rematch will be watched.
“The Peña rematch with Nunes will probably be the biggest women’s fight of all time,” White said. “That rematch will be the biggest women’s fight of all time. (Right now) it’s Ronda Rousey and Holly. Every way that it could possibly beat it, it will. I don’t think it. I know it. It will crush that fight.”
When Julianna Peña will rematch Amanda Nunes is uncertain but it does appear the rematch will happen next.
