Chael Sonnen believes UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou can learn something from Jorge Masvidal as he is in the middle of a contract dispute.
According to Sonnen, he says the likes of Ngannou, Deiveson Figueiredo, and Brandon Moreno should all look to Masvidal to see how he has marketed himself. That is being active on social media, doing interviews, and promoting his own fights and future fights well.
“What can Deiveson Figueiredo, Brandon Moreno, and Francis Ngannou learn from Jorge Masvidal? Well, you have three guys that are complaining they’re not getting enough money, and you have one guy who’s never said the word ‘money’ – Jorge Masvidal,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel (via MMAJunkie). “Jorge Masvidal is bringing attention to his fight successfully. Do you know what it costs to post something on Twitter? Do you know how cheap and inexpensive that is?”
Chael Sonnen is pointing to the video Jorge Masvidal released on his social media exposing Colby Covington. That caught the attention of media and fans which will only add to hype and pay-per-view buys to his upcoming fight. He believes if Francis Ngannou can start doing that, he would become a massive star and would, in turn, earn more money.
“Everybody unhappy in their contract, everybody who thinks they should be getting more money, and everybody who’s talking about money needs to follow the lead of the guy who’s not,” Sonnen added. “When was the last interview you saw where Masvidal said he needed more money? How about never, and it’s not because all of a sudden, Masvidal lives some minimal lifestyle. It’s not as though Masvidal is not a prizefighter, as well. Masvidal knows how to get the money.”
Jorge Masvidal is set to headline UFC 272 on March 5 against Colby Covington in a highly-anticipated. He has headlined four PPVs in a row including creating the BMF belt against Nate Diaz which shows how good of a marketer he is.
