Nate Diaz suffered a minor injury in training camp and his fight with Leon Edwards has now been pushed back.
Diaz and Edwards were set to face each other on the May 15 card. However, there is a rain cloud over the Brit’s head as the bout was scrapped again. Then, the bout was scheduled for the show in Houston Texas, but that has changed to the UFC 263 show. The news was first reported by ESPN.
Following suit with the bad luck of Edwards, Diaz suffered a minor injury and now the two will fight at a later date. Additionally, the promotion is eyeing the June 12 show in Glendale AZ, in front of a max capacity audience.
Nate Diaz Vs. Leon Edwards 5-Round Co-Main Event Postponed
It’s not a huge postponement, so, at least fans can begin to get excited for a Diaz fight week that’s only a month away. Prior to the pairing, Edwards was a victim of unfortunate circumstances when he fought Belal Muhammad. In particular, the welterweight riding an eight-fight win streak extended his fingers and inadvertently eye gouged Muhammad back in March.
Conversely, Diaz is returning from a two-year hiatus. The UFC superstar last competed against Jorge Masvidal in a super fight at Madison Square Garden in New York. Before that, the Stockton native picked up one of the biggest wins of his career when he beat down former champion Anthony Pettis in a thrilling striking back-and-forth.
At least the fight between Diaz and Edwards will still take place in front of a sold-out crowd. As with any Diaz fight, it always means big business, and this time that business will head to AZ. In the end, it’s nice to see that the promotion is committed to making sure Edwards (who had a terrible 2020) gets another big opportunity, after all, he has the biggest win streak inside the welterweight division aside from the champion.
