The summer is heating up as a welterweight firefight is on deck for UFC 265 event between Michael Chiesa and Vicente Luque.
The news was first reported by CagesidePress‘ Chris Prawdzik. Specifically, the bout will be a pivotal one to determine who might be next for champion Kamaru Usman. Additionally, the bout is said to be taking place on August 7 as part of the UFC 265 pay-per-view show. UFC 265 is headlined by double champion Amanda Nunes defending her 135lbs belt against Julianna Peña.

While there was initial confusion in the welterweight title picture, UFC president Dana White has since sorted that out. In fact, he already declared Colby Covington to be Usman’s next opponent whenever the champ is ready to return.
Vicente Luque holds a professional record of 20-7-1. Conversely, Chiesa is a TUFF winner and holds a record of 17-4. Overall, the fight is interesting because it provides fans with the classic grappler/striker matchup.
However, Luque’s grappling skills have always gone under the radar. But it seems now it is getting the attention it deserves after submitting former champion Tyron Woodley with a d’arce choke in the first round back in March.
On the other hand, Chiesa is looking solid on a four-fight win streak. Since moving up from the lightweight division, it seems the 33-year old has realized his true weight class. With signature wins over Neil Magny and Rafael dos Anjos at 170lbs, it’s safe to say that Chiesa’s streak is more than just a number. Not to mention Luque is looking as violent as ever, so this fight is a big win for all fight fans around the world.
