After an injury scrapped Montana De La Rosa from the card, Maycee Barber will now fight the rising upstart, Erin Blanchfield at UFC 269.
The bout was announced by Blanchfield on her Instagram Live on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021. Barber will meet Blanchfield as part of the last pay-per-view show of the year on Dec. 11. As of this writing, there is no set location or venue announced. Barber last competed against Miranda Maverick in July and narrowly won the fight by split decision. Meanwhile, Blanchfield made her UFC debut recently, against Sarah Alpar. In spite of any Octagon jitters, the 22-year-old prospect won her first bout with the UFC by a clear unanimous decision victory.
UFC 269 is spoiled with riches as the main event features the lightweight champion Charles Oliveira aiming to send Dustin Poirier back down the ladder of contenders. In addition, the co-main event will put the spotlight on the women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Peña. The event promises to be one of the biggest of the year. Just days ago, we reported that Leon Edwards will finally meet Jorge Masvidal at the UFC 269 PPV.
Barber, 23, is also very young for the division but experienced nonetheless. In 2018, Barber brought all of the hype with her. As “The Future” entered the UFC she pulled off a spectacular debut performance after stopping Hannah Cifers with ground and pound at 2:01 into round 2.
Blanchfield, 22, is on a 4-fight winning streak. Despite some of her wins being outside of the UFC, her performances in Invicta FC provide ample evidence that she can contend with some elite competition. “Cold Blooded” just fought on Sept. 18, 2021, against Alpar. Now, she is getting back into action quickly for an even bigger fight at UFC 269 on Dec. 11 against “The Future”.
