Chan Sung Jung aka Korean Zombie is a bit upset he’s main eventing another UFC card.
In Zombie’s last seven UFC fights including his last five after he returned from his mandatory military service he has been the main event. Although only one was a pay-per-view, he has been the face of the poster on Fight Night cards. Yet, after Zombie lost to Brian Ortega on Fight Island in October he asked for his next fight to be a co-main event, but that will not happen.
Instead, Zombie is set to headline UFC Vegas 29 on Saturday, June 19 as he faces Dan Ige. It’s a pivotal featherweight bout and for Korean Zombie he says he is sad he is the main event.
“I’ve been asking for a co-main event to do three rounds,” Jung told MMA Junkie through an interpreter at media day. “They didn’t give it to me. I was a little bit sad about that. There’s also an upside to being a main event. You get a lot more attention. A little bit more money and stuff like that. I definitely wanted to do a three-rounder.”
Although Korean Zombie wanted a three-round fight it makes sense the UFC put him back in the main event. He’s a big name in the sport and a fan favorite that many fans want to see. Unfortunately for Korean Zombie, if he wants a three-round fight he will have to be on a pay-per-view card which would be a nice addition to the main card. But, for now, he will remain headlining UFC cards.
Korean Zombie enters this fight against Dan Ige as the fourth-ranked featherweight contender. He’s coming off a decision loss to Brian Ortega that had he won, he likely would’ve gotten a title shot. Prior to that, he earned back-to-back first-round stoppages over Frankie Edgar and Renato Moicano.
