UFC President Dana White announced that once again Khamzat Chimaev is out of his scheduled UFC bout on March 13. Now, this is the third time that a fight between Chimaev and Leon Edwards has fallen apart. In the meantime, Hunter Cambell along with UFC brass are looking for a replacement opponent for Edwards.
Initially, the two were scheduled to meet in December and January but due to Covid-19 health issues on both sides of the aisle, the fight was further sidelined.
Khamzat Chimaev OUT! Here We Go Again…
Prior to the flurry of failed fight announcements, Chimaev had an outstanding 2020 despite the worldwide pandemic. The young 26-year old showed what he was about after winning two fights in eleven days on “Fight Island”. After that success, his next bout was scheduled with the ranked middleweight, Gerald Meerschaert, who Chimaev laid out flat in 17-seconds.
On the other hand, Edwards has endured a ton of bad luck in 2020. The England-native was forced to sit out on the sidelines for most of last year due to Covid-19. Similar to the issues Chimaev is dealing with now, so did Edwards earlier last year. Edwards has not competed since early 2019, yet he still has a high number next to his name as well as a target on his back. With Stephen Thompson claiming he cannot accept the fight due to a broken hand, the possibilities are limited.
With the removal of Khamzat Chimaev and Leon Edwards, here is the most current schedule for the UFC event on March 13:

- Jonathan Martinez vs. Davey Grant
