Kevin Holland wants to fight Stephen Thompson next, and both parties are apparently in agreement.
Recently, Thompson did an interview and said he would like to face Holland next as it would be a very fun striking fight. ‘Wonderboy’ is on a two-fight losing skid after being outwrestled by Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad and now has been vocal about wanting to face a striker next. He called out Holland who is open to the fight.
Kevin Holland vs Stephen Thompson Challenge Accepted
“It’s a fight down because I’m not ranked, but I kind of should be ranked,” Holland told MMA Junkie. “After one fight at welterweight, I probably should have got ranked, because I was ranked at middleweight. It’s like you took my ranking away off of a dub. It’s really crazy, so it’s whatever. ‘Wonderboy’ and me would be a fun fight. I think we’d have a good time. All he’s got to do is sign a contract, I’m there.”
Holland is 2-0 since dropping down to welterweight as he TKO’d Alex Oliveira and submitted Tim Means but in the Means fight, he had hurt him before he grabbed the choke.
Why Kevin Holland vs Stephen Thompson Makes Sense
Why Holland wants the Thompson fight is simple. He knows both men are strikers and he believes it will be a fun fight for the fans as well as the fact he has confidence that he can KO Thompson. “It’s not that tricky. It’s a striker. I’m a striker,” Holland said. “It’s not that tricky. There’s nothing that he’s doing that I think that this is a puzzle that can’t be solved. The puzzle has been solved.
“It’s all about implementing what’s been solved in the puzzle,” he continued, “and making it happen again. The holes that were there are still there. He’s a wonderful person, a wonderful fighter, a wonderful human being, but this is the fight game. I have a right hand. He’s been knocked out before. I touch him, he will go to sleep.”
Whether or not the fight will happen is uncertain but both Holland and Thompson are interested in making it happen.
