Katlyn Chookagian is back for an exciting fight against Viviane Araujo. While the card has yet to be announced and also lacks a confirmed location, the two will throw down on May 15. The news was confirmed by sources at ESPN. Chookagian has been a staple UFC flyweight and has been fighting for the organization since 2015.
While Araujo is newer to the sport, she had a fantastic debut back in 2019 at UFC 237: Namajunas vs. Andrade, where the Brazilian shut out Talita Bernardo’s lights with an overhand right. Following that performance, the Brazilian looked stellar inside the Octagon, with just a single recent loss coming to fellow flyweight, Jessica Eye.

Chookagian’s 2019 year was so good that many were starting to include her name in title talks. Specifically, the “Blond Fighter” picked up some very notable wins in her division, like Joanne Calderwood, and former title challenger, Jennifer Maia. Eventually, Chookagian got her chance and challenged Valentina Shevchenko for the UFC Flyweight Championship. The 32-year old kickboxer got outmatched but showed a lot of toughness. In the end, she lost by being trapped in a crucifix while being pounded on. Despite the setbacks, Chookagian’s title experience is valuable.
Conversely, Araujo has seen a lot of success inside the cage but has yet to fight for a title. Prior to this announcement, the Brazilian picked up a big win over the ranked Roxanne Modafferi last January. Araujo is an aggressive athlete. The fighter has a combined seven finishes on her record. With only two professional losses on her record, Araujo will be looking to make a statement.
