The last time we saw Justin “The Fort” Sumter compete he suffered a disappointing loss to Maki Pitolo at Dana White’s Contender Series in July of 2019. Now, Sumter (7-3) looks to get back on track when he meets Romero Cotton (4-0) in a middleweight bout on December 10th at Bellator 254.

The Fighting Arts Academy (FAA) standout discussed what life has been like for him during 2020 and how he has had to change his training regimen because of the Covid-19 restrictions that all of us have faced. Although Sumter is obviously disappointed with his loss to Pitolo, the heavy-handed middleweight has used his two DWCS setbacks as fuel to his fire to get better in the cage.

“I lacked a little bit of the focus that I needed and the result obviously showed that but just staying motivated and focused was the key especially in this camp,” he said. “Now it’s just more concreting that mindset the last six months and I think it’s gonna show in the fight”.

Sumter will now face an undefeated prospect and the FAA fighter is extremely confident.

“Definitely my biggest advantage is striking. He is a pressure wrestler and I think that plays more into my game,” he said. “Looking at him on the ground he’s not that smooth. I feel like I have the better stand up and the better BJJ”.

Sumter went on to predict a second-round finish. Tune in on CBS Sports Network and watch these two impressive middleweights tangle at the Mohegan Sun on December 10th.
