Junior dos Santos has provided fans a health update after his Eagle FC 47 main event against Yorgan De Castro ended due to a shoulder injury.
In the third round, dos Santos looked like he was cruising to a decision win but a minute-and-a-half into the third round, he threw a punch and his shoulder came out of the socket. Right away the fight was called, leaving dos Santos to lose by doctor stoppage. After the result, the former UFC champ took to Instagram to provide a health update.
“I already talked to my doctor, we’re gonna do some exams and figure out what’s gonna be the procedures to get this thing better as soon as possible,” dos Santos said in a video posted to Instagram. “But before going to battle I’d like to share with you guys that I was feeling so happy. I was feeling very good during the fight, like I haven’t felt in a long, long time. It was good because I was able to deliver everything I worked for. The hard work we put in the gym, I was able to bring inside the octagon on the day of the fight and things were working good for us until we had this injury.”
What’s Next for Junior dos Santos?
With the loss, Junior dos Santos dropped to 21-10 as a pro and is now on a five-fight losing streak. Prior to this loss due to injury, he suffered four straight TKO losses to Ciryl Gane, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Curtis Blaydes, and Francis Ngannou. His last win came back in March of 2019 when he defeated Derrick Lewis by TKO.
Although dos Santos has now lost five straight fights, he still remains a big name in the sport, and when he is healthy he will likely fight again and look to prove he is still a contender. He looked good through two rounds and given his legacy, he likely will only need a win or two to get a heavyweight title shot.
