Despite losing twice when he fought for gold, Jorge Masvidal is determined to right the ship and one day drape a UFC title around his waist.
The #6-ranked welterweight is coming off two losses to Kamaru Usman. In their first encounter, Masvidal stepped up on short notice in dramatic fashion and flew across the world to Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. The entirety of the buildup had shades of nostalgia as many were reminded of Masvidal’s younger days. “Gamebred” is widely known for his budding years as a fighter being contended in the backyards of Miami alongside the notorious Kimbo Slice.
After the second title encounter with Usman resulted in a brutal knockout, Masvidal realized it was time to return to the drawing board and reaccess his mistakes. Since the defeat in July, Masvidal has been on the sidelines but it seems he is beginning to angle for a fight. In particular, it looks like #2-ranked Gilbert Burns and Leon Edwards are in his crosshairs.
@GamebredFighter is coming for either @Leon_edwardsmma or @GilbertDurinho idk if that’s technically Abdelaziz on his account or whatever 🤷🏾♂️ Fuck em up like Tay Keith! 🎶#GameBred #StreetJesus pic.twitter.com/S4tmvtfA7C

In 2019, in “Gamebread” fashion, the Miami-native went to Darren Till’s backyard in London, England, and starched him in round two. After the fight, he got into a backstage scuffle with Leon Edwards and gave him the famous ‘three-piece and a soda’, and now it looks like the two might rekindle that angst and lock horns in 2021.
With Gilbert Burns also calling Masvidal’s name, it appears the UFC superstar might have a fight lined up. Realistically, since Masvidal is so hellbent on getting back to the world title, all signs would point to him taking a fight with the highest-ranked opponent possible, and right now that is Burns.
As of this writing, the #1-ranked Colby Covington is fighting Usman in their respective rematch scheduled for November 6. Last month, UFC president Dana White confirmed that the two will meet in the next welterweight title fight.
