UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones was the focus of various headlines this month following his recent retirement announcement. The men’s pound-for-pound king has remained active online since and has continued to target Francis Ngannou and Israel Adesanya. However, his attention has now turned towards middleweight knockout artist, Paulo Costa.
In a recent case of ‘tweet and delete’, Jones released a series of direct messages between Costa and himself before seemingly regretting his decision, just moments later. Luckily for us, the post was swiftly captured by many users and reshared for the world to see.
Jones captioned the photo, “Lol this dude is a bitch, I was being sarcastic and he actually apologized.”
He opened up by refusing to engage with the Brazilian contender.
“Once you get 100,000 followers on Twitter I still start replying to you publicly. Why did you have to start with the insults man, the wasn’t very nice. You hurt my feelings. It’s not too late to apologize.”
His message was quickly answered.
“Hello Jon, if you felt bad I’m sorry. Was not my intention, really. I wish all the best to you sincerely. This is a humor page too, don’t take things here too seriously. But if you want I can delete it without any problems. As I said it is not the same sense to offend.”
Costa is expected to face current 185lbs champion, Adesanya for the title in August. ‘Borrachinha’ has also revealed that he has signed a new UFC contract ahead of their rumored bout in Las Vegas.
Although billionaire status is a long way off, it is predicted that Costa’s new contract will be significantly more rewarding than his last, as he has remained undefeated during his UFC tenure so far. Meanwhile, Jones is still adamant about retirement until his feud with Dana White over fighter pay has been settled.
