On Saturday night, October 10, at the Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina, Kansas, MMA fight veteran and BKFC Heavyweight Champion Joey Beltran (18-15, 1 NC in MMA, 3-1-1 BKFC) looks to successfully defend his title against Birmingham, Alabama product Marcel Stamps (4-2 MMA, 1-0 BKFC). For the Oceanside, California native, this will be his sixth bout without gloves, but this will be his first title defense. Beltran, known to be “a really nice guy” according to MMA aficionado, Joe Rogan, easily shakes off that out of the ring image and goes to work in an instant when ready to fight.
As for Stamps, any Alabama football fan can imagine that whether the former three-star prospect straps on the pads to play on the gridiron or marches into the cage or the ring to fight, that it’s all fair in the art of warfare in combat sports, these two won’t smile or exchange pleasantries one in a half weeks away from the 10th. Beltran had fought an adverse journeyman’s battle with stints in the UFC, Bellator MMA, Strikeforce, and King of the Cage, where he has accumulated a high value of experience filled with great victories and stinging losses.
For the “Mexicutioner”, he is the heavy favorite in this matchup where he has been able to bide his time and prepare for as long as he has been able too. With his last fight on November 16, 2019, clinching the title over the then-defending champion, Chase Sherman, he had plenty of time off to improve that knockout power and without gloves, he could become more deadly than a cannon.
Can Beltran, position himself to keep the momentum going with a victory over the former outside linebacker or will Stamps associate himself with two words that rarely any former Crimson Tide wouldn’t normally do…stunning upset?!?
