If Jake Paul does end up boxing Anderson Silva next time out, he will have the respect of Joe Rogan.
It has been rumored that Paul and Silva are set to headline a Showtime boxing pay-per-view on October 29, likely to take place in Arizona. The match would be a big step-up in competition for Paul, and Rogan says it is a very tough fight for the YouTuber-turned-boxer.
Joe Rogan On Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva Fight
“I love it,” Rogan said on his most recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.
“If Jake Paul really decides to fight Anderson, that’s a very, very, very tough fight. Anderson, if he just went straight into boxing, would have been a f*cking world champion.”
Although many have been critical of Paul’s boxing career due to him being famous on YouTube and the Disney Channel, Rogan says he is still a legit boxer. Rogan believes Paul being famous on social media had hurt his credibility in boxing but the UFC commentator knows Paul is really good and a legit boxer.
“Jake Paul is one of the smartest marketers that the f*cking sport has ever seen,” Rogan said. “And he can fight.”
“The thing is, people think he’s this YouTube guy, and he can’t fight. The way he knocked out Tyron Woodley? Come the f*ck on. I’ve said this multiple times: If that guy was just a boxer and you never known anything about his background on YouTube and you saw him knock out Tyron Woodley with one shot, you’d be like, ‘Holy sh*t, there’s this new guy coming up, and he’s a bad motherf*cker. He’s really legit.’”
Paul is currently just 5-0 in boxing and coming off the KO win over Tyron Woodley last December, after earning a split decision win over Woodley. He also has a TKO win over Ben Askren as well as a KO win over Nate Robinson and fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib. Silva, meanwhile, has knocked out Tito Ortiz and beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by decision in boxing following his UFC release.
