Holly Holm has signed a new six-fight deal with the UFC.
Holm is set to return to the Octagon on Saturday in the co-main event of UFC San Antonio against Yana Santos. When Holm does make the walk to the Octagon, she will be doing so with a new contract as she revealed on media day she had signed a new six-fight deal with the promotion.
Holly Holm Announces Six-Fight Deal With the UFC
“After my last fight I wasn’t sure (what would happen),” Holm said at UFC San Antonio media day. “I was hopeful we could still come to an agreement and be able to continue to my career with the UFC, so I’m very, very happy to have that contract signed. My mind is of course just on this fight ahead of me, but I’m happy to continue my journey with the UFC.”
Holm is coming off a controversial split decision loss to Kelten Vieira in the main event of a Fight Night card in May. After the loss, Holm wasn’t sure what would be next as the loss snapped her two-fight winning streak. She had previously beaten Irene Aldana and Raquel Pennington, and had she beaten Vieira, a title shot could have been next.
Holm’s Eyes Are Still On a Title Shot
Yet, even though she lost her last fight, Holm still is confident she will fight for the belt and be the champion again. She also makes it clear if she didn’t have title aspirations she wouldn’t be fighting anymore.
“I think that’s the only thing you need to focus on if you’re in this game,” Holm said. “If you don’t want to be the champion, what are you doing here? It’s a scary kind of path to take because you know that means you have to take the toughest fights, the biggest fights to be successful. That’s where all that pressure comes in on you. But if I’m going to be here, I want to do it all the way.”
Holm (14-6), as mentioned, is coming off the loss to Vieira and before that beat Aldana and Pennington. She has been in the UFC since 2015 and has a record of a 7-6 inside the Octagon. Her resume includes notable wins over Ronda Rousey – to win the belt – Marion Reneau, and Bethe Correia among others.
