Surging middleweight Gerald Meerschaert is back and this time he will be facing promotional newcomer Abusupiyan Magomedov on December 18.
MMA Junkie was the first to report news of the targeted booking between Meerschaert and Magomedov. As of this writing, the event does not have an assigned location or venue yet.
Magomedov’s nomadic style has led to him competing in the Professional Fighting League (PFL) and KSW. While the Russian had success in both he also dealt with failure. He now finds himself on the biggest stage in the UFC. The 31-year old Dagestani is on a two-fight winning streak. Magomedov will be tasked with taking on a busy Meerschaert as the American just competed four months ago where he picked up a big submission victory.
Recently, Meerschaert reinvented himself after the destructive knockout he suffered against the rising star Khamzat Chimaev. In a fight that only lasted seventeen seconds, the one-punch knockout certainly catapulted Chimaev to new heights afterward. Though, upon contracting COVID-19, “Borz” has not competed but will finally meet Jingliang Li on Oct. 30.
So far it seems the new methodical approach of Meerschaert is working well for him. Facing the American is the 24-4-1 well-rounded Magomedov. At this point, Meerschaert is never in a boring fight, and often finishes or gets finished in the process. In addition, Meerschaert will have to be mindful of Magomedov’s standup power. The Russian has finished 13 of his 24 victories by TKO/knockout.
With the addition of Gerald Meerschaert and Abusupiyan Magomedov, here is an up-to-date lineup for the UFC event on Dec. 18:
