Dana White and the UFC are interested in free agent, Kayla Harrison.
Harrison, the two-time PFL lightweight champion, is a free agent and is one of the biggest free agents in quite some time. PFL and Bellator have already talked about their interest in Harrison and now White and the UFC are joining that list.
For White, he wants Harrison to sign with the UFC to prove how good she is by fighting Amanda Nunes, who many view as the greatest female mixed martial artist of all time.
“I’m interested in the whole Kayla Harrison thing,” White told TSN. “She says she’s the best fighter in the world, there’s only one way to find out: Come over here and fight the GOAT. You want to be the greatest of all time? Come fight the GOAT.”
Although both Harrison and Nunes train at American Top Team, the UFC boss doesn’t think that will be any concern. Instead, he knows Nunes will fight whoever they offer even if it is one of her teammates as it would be a legacy fight for both women.
“Well you know, first of all, Amanda Nunes is one of the best athletes I’ve ever worked with and she doesn’t play that goofy, ‘we’re just friends,’ sh*t,” White said.
Despite the fact the UFC women’s featherweight division is thin, Dana White says the division is still there so they are still adding fighters. That is why they are interested in bringing in Kayla Harrison as it would be a big fight for women’s MMA and the featherweight division.
Harrison is in talks with multiple organizations
Yet, for White, he says once Nunes says she no longer wants to fight at 145lbs, the division will likely be no longer.
“I have that division, the division is still there for the champion,” White said. “The day she says she doesn’t want to defend that belt anymore, we’d probably let it go. It’s there for her.”
