Dana White isn’t keen on allowing Henry Cejudo to come out of retirement to fight Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight belt.
Cejudo retired back in May of 2020 after he TKO’d Dominick Cruz to defend his title. When he did retire, many thought he would eventually return. Yet, he has remained retired but recently he has been vocal about coming out of retirement to fight Volkanovski.
“Not only do I believe I can beat him, I know that I can stop him, dude,” Cejudo said to TMZ Sports. “As much as I saw good things from Volkanovski, there still is a lot of holes. I believe my height will be a problem, because he is a couple inches taller than me. My speed, my wrestling, my experience, I’ve been in there with the best. Alexander ‘The Average,’ okay you had a great performance, it was a great fight, I just believe I have the ‘it’ factor to beat this dude, not only beat him, but stop him.”Although Cejudo wants the fight, UFC president, Dana White isn’t sold on the idea. He says it would be hard to get Cejudo to come out of retirement and jump the queue and face the champ.“Listen, he retired,” White said during the Contender Series press conference last night (via MMAFighting). “You’ve been off all this time and now you want to come back and fight Volkanovski and jump the line and jump over Max and all these other guys that have been there? It’s a tough conversation.”Whether or not the fight will ever happen is to be seen. However, it would be an intriguing matchup but if it’s a fight Cejudo wants for real, he could always come out of retirement and fight at featherweight and work his way up to a title shot against Volkanovski.
