Curtis Blaydes is hoping to fight Jon Jones in the very near future.
Jones is set to make up his heavyweight debut for the vacant title in the main event of UFC 285 on March 4 against Ciryl Gane. It’s a massive fight and Blaydes is hoping to face the winner and hopes it is Jones as he knows it’s a big fight, and it’s a scrap he believes he has a lot of advantages in.
Curtis Blaydes on Jon Jones
“Just the difference between 215 or 197 compared to heavyweight, when you’re on the bottom, when he’s underneath me, which I do plan on him being underneath me, he’s gonna use a lot more energy than what he’s used to using,” Blaydes said on a recent episode of “Food Truck Diaries” with Brendan Schaub. “I think that’ll be the biggest factor. Size, power, explosiveness. He’s not the most explosive guy. He’s very creative with the striking, but he’s not very explosive. I think he’s more well rounded, but the wrestling, the size, the explosion, and power, I think jab for jab, if we both connect, he’ll go backwards, and I won’t.”
As of right now, Curtis Blaydes does not have his next fight booked, but all signs point towards him facing Sergei Pavlovich next time out. Should that fight happen, Blaydes would need to win it in order to get the title shot which he is confident in his skills will happen.
Curtis Blaydes (17-3 and one No Contest) is currently on a three-fight winning streak and coming off a TKO win over Tom Aspinall in a fight the Brit tore his ACL just seconds into the fight. Blaydes is currently ranked fourth at heavyweight and also on the win streak, he has a TKO win over Chris Daukaus and a decision win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik. In his UFC tenure, he holds notable wins over Alexander Volkov, Junior dos Santos, Mark Hunt, and Alistair Overeem among others.
