Cris Cyborg wouldn’t mind fighting Kayla Harrison sometime in the future.
Cyborg is set to defend her Bellator featherweight title in the main event of Bellator 259 on Friday night against Leslie Smith. It will serve as a rematch as Cyborg scored a first-round TKO at UFC 198.
If Cyborg wins, she is running out of options but says a future matchup with Harrison does interest her.
“I don’t worry about her saying she’s the queen,” Cyborg stated to MMAFighting. “I wake up in the morning, look in the mirror, and say I’m the queen, for myself. What do the fans think, right? What do the fans think? And if she thinks that, man, cool for her. If she ever wants to go [back to 145] and the fans want to see this fight then, for sure, it’s going to happen. But my focus is on Leslie, and if she signs with Bellator after the tournament then we can think about this.”
Although Cyborg likes the fight, Harrison is under contract with the PFL until the end of the year. After that, the UFC, Bellator, and PFL will likely all try and get her to sign.
However, if Harrison doesn’t end up signing with Bellator, Cyborg knows there are still a lot of fights for her.
“Bellator has had a lot of girls sign in the 145-pound division, and this makes me happy signing with Bellator because I don’t have to wait,” Cyborg said. “Scott Coker has been doing amazing and [this division] is getting better, and I just need to be prepared for the next one.”
After Smith, Cyborg could rematch Julia Budd or face Cat Zingano, both fights would be marketable for the promotion. But, as of right now, she is just focused on her fight against Leslie Smith and doesn’t want to look too far ahead.
