The Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier trilogy bout will sit atop the UFC 264 card on July 10.

According to ESPN, the bout is official after Poirier affirmed that he had signed the contract for the third fight. Specifically, Ariel Helwani was the first to announce the big news. The story is no surprise as fans became speculative once the UFC confirmed the vacant lightweight title fight. In particular, Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira are set to face each other for the vacant UFC lightweight belt.

Prior to the second fight, it seemed McGregor held all the cards. Since the Irishman knocked Poirier out in one round in their first bout, many predicted their next fight to look similar. However, Poirier made huge advancements in his standup. Ultimately the “Diamond” seized his opportunity for revenge and knocked McGregor out in their second fight at UFC 257. After enduring one of the worst losses of his career, McGregor is obsessed with the rubber match.

Following the news that the UFC paired Chandler and Oliveira together many read between the lines and figured these two would meet for the third time. With McGregor always doing big business, pressure is on the superstar to perform since his last loss was the first knockout loss of his career.

Overall, the fight will be an enormous pay-per-view event considering the stakes, not just because McGregor is on the ticket. Although surely this time around the superstar intends to bring a more furious pace, as with all of his rematches, he tends to improve.
