Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt has been ruled out of his UFC 255 Flyweight title fight with Deiveson Figueiredo. Garbrandt will be replaced by Alex Perez, who was set to fight Brandon Moreno on the card.
The news was first reported by Brazilian MMA outlet, Combate. There is yet to be any information released regarding why Garbrandt was forced to drop out of the much-anticipated bout, but we will keep you updated on any new information.
Figueiredo is set to defend his UFC Flyweight Championship for the first time, after dismantling Joseph Benevidez for the title earlier in the year. Garbrandt was due to make his Flyweight debut, coming off a vicious knockout victory over Raphael Assuncao at Bantamweight.
But now the Flyweight title shot belongs to Alex Perez, who has amassed a record of 6-1 since joining the UFC in 2017. Perez made quick work of veteran Jussier Formiga in his last fight and will be eager to pounce at this unexpected title opportunity.
UFC 251 is set to take place on November 21, at the APEX in Las Vegas.
