Ciryl Gane likes the idea of fighting Derrick Lewis next time out.
After both Lewis and Gane won heavyweight main events in back-to-back weeks, many thought a fight between the two made sense. They both have seemingly called each other out and Gane says if they are to fight, he knows he has a good chance of finishing it early.
“If the fight (Lewis) is going to be OK for the contract, I think I’d like to finish the fight before the end,” Gane told MMA Junkie. “Of course, because I know it’s good to finish the fight, but it’s better to finish the fight before the end. So if I can, I’m gonna do it.”
If Gane is going to fight Derrick Lewis, he knows he can’t make any mistakes. He watched Curtis Blaydes make one mistake and get knocked out.
However, the Frenchman does like his chances against Lewis as long as he avoids the power shot.
“He doesn’t have a lot of skills, but this guy is f–king dangerous,” Gane explained. “With one punch, just one punch, he can finish the game and he’s No. 2 in the rankings just with one punch. So yes, this guy is really dangerous.”
Although both Ciryl Gane and Derrick Lewis appear to want the fight, they will both wait to see what happens in the UFC 260 main event. Jon Jones is also out there, so both Gane and Lewis will likely need to get another fight.
However, for Gane, he says he is spending time right now bulking up but says the Lewis fight could happen this summer.
“Maybe not now because I never did a good workout for the strength,” Gane said. “And when you want to work on your strength, you need maybe two months. So not now, maybe in three months, so maybe in June or July.”
