MMA legend and media star Chael Sonnen is calling for an invasion on YouTube upstart Jake Paul. When “The American Gangster” speaks, all shall listen. The one time most polarizing figure in MMA wants to see another polarizing figure face yet another polarizing figure in MMA once he returns following a five-year suspension for failing a drug test. Sonnen wants to see Nick Diaz face Jake Paul in a fight somewhere in 2021. Diaz is slated to return at the start of the new year and shake up the welterweight division. His last fight was against Anderson Silva at UFC 183 that resulted from a loss to a no-contest when Diaz tested positive for marijuana while Silva tested positive for steroids.
Paul defeated three-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion Nate Robinson via second-round TKO on November 28 at the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. undercard in Los Angeles. With the rest of the MMA community looking for a large paycheck and a night off, volunteering a two-time UFC welterweight challenger may be a good idea. On Firstsportz.com, Sonnen brought to light Diaz’s status and gave a radical idea should his representatives somehow are unable to work out a new deal with the UFC.
“And if he (Nick Diaz) doesn’t have a contract and I’m managing him, I’m not bringing him back to MMA. I’m bringing him in to take on Jake Paul. If he (Nick Diaz) has a free contract as it sits right now, he’s in shape, he’s weighing around 170, (then) I’m getting him the Jake Paul fight.
He further added, “I’m gonna get him training. I’m gonna get him to do a weigh-in. I’m gonna get him to go out and compete. I’m gonna get him a jackpot full of money and then I’m gonna bring him back over to MMA. If I’m the manager, that’s the way I’m going to do it. And it seems as though there are some good options out there right now.”
“So the manager is saying that he is 99.99 percent sure that Nick Diaz is going to fight in 2021. Okay, fine. Let me tell you something I’m a hundred percent sure of: If Nick Diaz does not come back and fight in 2021, Nick Diaz is going to have nothing to come back to.”
It sounds like if Sonnen were in their shoes, he either wants to do business with the internet celebrity who has the same mindset as he once did…or test the resolve of someone who sounds like nothing more than a young punk biting off more than he can chew.
