David Feldman, the president of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, has revealed Chad Mendes’ promotional debut has been postponed.
Mendes was supposed to make his debut on October 22 in Arizona against an opponent TBD. However, Feldman says Mendes’ fight will be moved to November 12 in Miami.
“We’re probably going to move it to Nov. 12 in Miami only because we have a little bit of issues with the venue there in Arizona,” Feldman told MMA Junkie. “So we’re going to move that. We have three guys on the table right now (for his opponent) – we are picking it (Friday). We said we were going to pick it before, but we have some issues with the venue. So (Friday), we’ll have an opponent for Chad Mendes. We’ll be able to announce that (Friday) or Monday. We’re definitely going to announce that one.”
One name that has been floated to sign with BKFC is Diego Sanchez. According to Feldman, they are close to signing him and one more surprising name soon.
“I know you may have heard that Diego Sanchez may be signing with us, (or) may not,” Feldman said. “We’re going to try to narrow that down (Friday) and narrow down his opponent if he does make his debut. We’re looking at December in Albuquerque, N.M., which would be great. It’s his hometown. We have some really great options on the table there, as well. So we’re just waiting to dot the I’s and cross the T’s on that and then we can make that official.
“And this one, I wish I could tell you, but I can’t,” Feldman added. “But I think when we announce this one next week, everybody’s going to go, ‘Holy sh*t.’ It’s going to be a great announcement, and I can’t wait to make that announcement. It’s a top prospect in mixed martial arts right now that just recently became a free agent, so it’s going to be great for us.”
Whether or not Sanchez would fight Mendes is uncertain. Regardless, BKFC is signing some big names and looking to add some hype to their promotion.
