Khamzat Chimaev has been all the talk since making his UFC debut and now Henry Cejudo believes the undefeated fighter easily beats Israel Adesanya.
Although Chimaev is currently fighting at welterweight, he has fought at middleweight before, and should he make the move back up, Cejudo thinks it goes well for him. Not only does Cejudo think he would become the champion, but he would do it easily.
“The guy that will stop (Adesanya) is actually a (170) pounder, and his name is Khamzat Chimaev,” Cejudo said on “The Triple C & Schmo Show.” I believe Chimaev is just a whole other animal, dude. His wrestling, his confidence. I mean, this dude – from what I’ve heard from a lot of people, this dude literally trains like nobody has ever seen before. When you’re a wrestler, and you’re like that, and he’s driven, I don’t think there’s nobody on the planet … I can see him easily beating Israel Adesanya. This is the reason why: Because he can take him down, and he has that Khabib (Nurmagomedov) control.”
Although Henry Cejudo believes Khamzat Chimaev defeats Israel Adesanya with ease, it’s uncertain if the fight will ever happen. Right now, the Swede is focused on fighting at welterweight and is rumored to be facing Gilbert Burns next time out.
Should he win that fight, it’s likely Chimaev will get a welterweight title shot against Kamaru Usman which will be a highly-anticipated scrap. Then, if he wins that, then maybe he decides to go back up to 185 to try and become a champ-champ which Henry Cejudo believes will go very well for him.
Regardless, for now, Adesanya will be healing up from his fight and wants Jared Cannonier next, likely in the summer. But, he is running out of contenders as he’s cleaning out the division so there is a chance a Chimaev bout happens in the future.
