A featherweight fight between Casey Kenney and Song Yadong is in the works for the UFC 265 pay-per-view.
These featherweight contenders are right on the cusp of an official ranking. Additionally, the fight is on August 7. The news was first reported by MMA Junkie. However, the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.
There is no current location or venue set at the moment, however, there are rumors that Houston, Texas is the frontrunner. Additionally, this will serve as the promotion’s first pay-per-view of August.
Casey Kenney, 30, is attempting to rebound after a loss to former champion Dominick Cruz. Prior to the loss, Kenney is starting to get comfortable inside the UFC Octagon. In particular, Kenney locked in three wins in a row against some solid competition.
Although, one win that stands out is against Nathaniel Wood. The unanimous decision victory indicated that he was ready for top competition. With the loss to Cruz though, the bantamweight needed to revamp his game and is in a good spot to recapture his old standing.
Other than one loss to Kyler Phillips back at UFC 259, Yadong, 23, looks near unstoppable in the Octagon. The statement is hard to argue too. With a statement win against Marlon “Chito” Vera in May of 2020, the featherweight is a notable contender in the division and most recognize it. While some thought the decision against Vera was unjust, nonetheless the judges scored the fight for the “Kung Fu Monkey”.
The UFC 265 pay-per-view event is headlined by the double champion Amanda Nunes who will look to defend her bantamweight title against Julianna Peña. Overall, the card is shaping up quite nicely. Former featherweight king Jose Aldo is fighting Pedro Munhoz in the bantamweight war too. The action all goes down on August 7.
