An exciting middleweight fight between rising star Austin Vanderford against Fabian Edwards at Bellator 259 is in the works.
Specifically, anonymous sources confirmed the news with MMAJunkie first, and now the middleweight bout will add to a stacked Bellator MMA card on May 21, headlined by the tantalizing rematch between featherweight champion Cris Cyborg taking on Leslie Smith.
While the event is still in development, as of right now the card is already looking strong with just a few fights on the card confirmed.
“The Gentleman” Austin Vanderford Looks To Continue Destructive Unbeaten Streak
Last fight, Vanderford’s conditioning came into question but once again the prospect pushed through and got a bloody unanimous decision victory. Overall, Vanderford is aware of when to strike and when he should take the fight to the ground. The 10-0 athlete has looked downright scary. If he can continue his unbeaten streak he is undoubtedly headed toward the title. In fact, this fight may be an informal number one contender’s bout.
On the other hand, the brother of top UFC athlete Leon Edwards, (Fabian) Edwards is a problem wherever the fight goes. Interestingly, the 28-year old’s victories are even between decisions, knockouts, and submissions. Edwards is eager to get back into the win column, especially since losing to Costello van Steenis by split decision.
The fight will serve as a good barometer for both fighters and give clarity on their respective ceilings. If Vanderford prevails, it would seem Paige Vanzant’s husband is well on his way to becoming more of a household name than his wife.
With the addition of Austin Vanderford Vs. Fabian Edwards added to the Bellator 259 card, here is the updated list of fights scheduled for the May 21 event:
