A pair of top flyweights in Askar Askarov and Alex Perez will square off on the July 21 UFC card.
The news was first reported by sources at BJ Penn. Following the initial report, both fighters confirmed the fight booking on their social media accounts.
As it stands, Askarov is the #2 ranked flyweight in the UFC and will face the #4 ranked Perez in a very competitive flyweight affair. Since Askarov is ranked so high, the Russian is definitely within his rights to call out the new champion. Following the aftermath of UFC 263, Askarov targeted the newly minted champ, Brandon Moreno.
“Congrats @theassassinbaby happy for you but we have some unfinished business#UFC263@ufc@espnmma” Askar Askarov posted.
A Brief Look At Askar Askarov Vs. Alex Perez
Askarov, 28, is unbeaten in his 14 professional fights. The undefeated Russian started fighting professionally in 2013. While he is not the most active fighter, the fact that he has maintained an unbeaten record for nearly a decade is downright impressive. With 7 submissions and 4 TKOs/Kos to his name, without a doubt, Askarov is must-see TV any time he is fighting.
Perez, 29, is a Dana White Contender Series alum. The flyweight has had 8 fights within the UFC. In those 8 fights, Perez only lost to the former champion Deiveson Figueiredo and former title challenger and legend Joseph Benavidez.
