Top lightweights do battle when Arman Tsarukyan and Joel Alvarez meet at a UFC event on February 26.

The lightweight bout scheduled for Feb. was first reported by TASS news agency MMA reporter Igor Lazorin. Arman Tsarukyan was tasked with an incredibly challenging debut. The lightweight was paired against the streaking Islam Makhachev. Since enduring a second pro loss to Makhachev, Arman Tsarukyan has fired off four UFC victories in a row.

A Look At Arman Tsarukyan & Joel Alvarez

With an overall record of 17-2, Arman Tsarukyan is a rising phenom among a busy lightweight division. Certainly, a loss to Makhachev is nothing to hold his hat on, Tsarukyan is a puzzling challenge for most 155-pound athletes.

En route to his impressive 4-fight winning streak in the UFC, Tsarukyan showed he was ready for a marked step-up after defeating Olivier Aubin-Mercier. Following the bounce-back performance from his loss to Makhachev,  Tsarukyan gathered momentum in the UFC albeit in the form of two unanimous decision victories. Interestingly, Makhachev is also slated to appear on this card and will be taking on the fellow streaking Beneil Dariush.

Recently, Arman Tsarukyan defeated Christos Giagos at UFC Vegas 37. The September bout would light his name on fire at 155-pounds. As the first finish of his UFC career (and a first-round finish at that), the emphatic performance has kept his name in conversations with some of the top lightweights in the division.

With Tsarukyan sitting at the #13-ranking in the UFC official standings, Joel Alvarez will look to ascend up the 155-pound ladder this Feb. Alvarez is a finishing machine. With a giant build for the lightweight division (6-foot-3), the 28-year-old has laid waste to four of his five UFC opponents.

Joel Alvarez recently picked up the biggest win of his career when he scored a brutal standing TKO against Thiago Moisés. It should be noted, he missed weight by over 2-pounds for his fight against Moisés. With both of these athletes on the come-up, they are without a doubt some of the scariest contenders rising up the ranks under thirty years of age.

With the addition of Arman Tsarukyan and Joel Alvarez added to the UFC card slated for Feb. 26, here is an updated UFC event lineup:

  • Beneil Dariush  vs.  Islam Makhachev
  • Ignacio. Bahamondes  vs.  Zhu Rong
  • Jinh Yu Frey  vs.  Hannah Goldy115 lbs
  • Arman Tsarukyan  vs.  Joel Alvarez

Who is your early pick in the lightweight battle between Arman Tsarukyan and Joel Alvarez?
