Andre Fili and Daniel Pineda will meet at a UFC event on June 26.
The two featherweights are set to collide in a summer showdown. The news was first reported by sources at BJ Penn. Additionally, sources revealed the fight will take place inside the UFC Apex, in Las Vegas. As the report indicates, contracts have been signed for both parties involved.
Andre Fili Vs. Daniel Pineda – Early Look
This is Fili’s first fight since his loss to Bryce Mitchell last October. This will serve as his return fight and the featherweight is always crafty on the feet and hard to hold down. Fili is primarily a striker and holds a professional record of 21-8.
Prior to Fili’s loss to Mitchell, he picked up a hard-fought split decision win against Charles Jourdain. However, it has never been an easy road for the veteran Fili as he has fought the best of the best. Before his Jourdain win, the American would drop a loss to rising featherweight player Sodiq Yusuff.
Conversely, Fili’s opponent Pineda holds a record of 27-14. Pineda is looking to bounce back after a brutal KO loss to Cub Swanson back at UFC 256: Figueiredo vs. Moreno. In addition, Pineda is 35 years old so the time is now for the submission specialist to perform. In particular, Pineda has 18 submissions on his professional record.
The featherweight scrap promises to deliver as it has shades of the classic stylistic matchup, a striker versus a grappler.
