Alexander Volkanovski is hoping he can face Conor McGregor in the future.
Volkanovski is the current UFC featherweight champion and has defeated former champs Jose Aldo and Max Holloway. Yet, the only featherweight champ he has yet to beat is McGregor and as Volkanovski is set to face Islam Makhachev for the lightweight strap, he hopes a win over Makhachev sets up a bout with the Irishman so he can defeat every former UFC featherweight champ.

“He knows he ain’t fighting for that featherweight title,” Volkanovski said to Submission Radio. “I go and take that lightweight title, he knows there’s an opportunity there… I’ve touched on the fact that he was the featherweight champion and he’s the only featherweight champion I haven’t beaten. So obviously that fight means something to me. As well as the money that’s involved and all that type of stuff. You know the whole circus around him, which would be entertaining and fun. I’d enjoy it. So all that type of stuff will be great, but there’s still a deeper sort of meaning to that fight than just that. I think he knows that, as well.”
How Would A Fight Between Conor McGregor and Alexander Volkanovski Go?
If Volkanovski does end up facing McGregor and defeats him, it would only help cement him as one of, if not the best featherweight champ of all time. He would be the only featherweight to defeat all the former champs in the division, and it would also mean that Volkanovski is the lightweight champ as well if the scrap were to happen.
Alexander Volkanovski (25-1) is undefeated in the UFC with a record of 22-0 and is coming off a win over Max Holloway for the third time to defend his belt. He has defended his strap four times with wins over Chan Sung Jung, Brian Ortega, Jose Aldo, and Chad Mendes. As for Conor McGregor, he hasn’t fought since the back-to-back stoppage losses to Dustin Poirier.
