Alexa Grasso believes she’s one win away from a title shot.
Grasso was set to headline UFC Vegas 62 against Viviane Araujo in a critical women’s flyweight division. Although it was uncertain if the winner would get a title shot, Grasso would prefer to have one more fight as she says she wants to fight the winner of Katlyn Chookagian vs. Manon Fiorot – which takes place at UFC 280 – for the number one contender.
A look at Alexa Grasso’s first main event

“I’ve faced a big challenge [fighting for 25 minutes for the first time],” Grasso said at the post-fight press conference. “I hope I can do it again. I wish I could have another main event with one of the girls, maybe the winner [of Katlyn Chookagian vs. Manon Fiorot] or the ones that are on the top. I would like to test myself again for 25 minutes before [a title shot], but if I have to go for the belt, I will do it.”
Even though Alexa Grasso is eyeing the winner of that fight, she isn’t sure who will win but expects it will be an exciting fight for the fans.
“It’s an important fight,” Grasso said. “I’m definitely waiting to watch that fight. I want to watch that fight. I’ve always thought about the result because if Manon wins, she will have five in a row, which is higher than me. But if Chookagian wins, she’s also been winning. It’s an important fight. I’m excited to watch it.”
Yet, even if the UFC decides to give Alexa Grasso the next title shot she won’t turn it down as she does think she has the tools to beat Valentina Shevchenko.
“I will do whatever [UFC matchmaker Mick] Maynard says,” Grasso said. “I trust him, he always puts good challenges on me. So whatever he says. But of course, I would like to have another main event.”
With the win over Araujo, Grasso is now 4-0 since moving up to 125lbs with wins over Araujo, Joanne Wood, Maycee Barber, and Ji Yeon Kim.
