After enduring one of the bigger upsets of 2021, former two-division champion Amanda Nunes has decided it’s time to change fight camps.

Amanda Nunes met Julianna Pena at UFC 269. Questions certainly surrounded her return considering she grappled with a case of COVID-19. After notching her last two fights at featherweight, perhaps the cut down to 135-pounds was more daunting than she originally thought it would be.

While Nunes joined American Top Team in 2014, it looks like the road is nearing its end. According to a Combate report, part of her plans to advance her career will include a departure from ATT. Joining the gym as a 9-4 professional, ATT was instrumental in her development as a world-class fighter. After going undefeated for 6-years, capturing two belts, the 12-0 record with ATT came to an end at UFC 269 against Pena.

Amanda Nunes Changing Things Up After UFC 269

“The Venezuelan Vixen” rose to the moment and captured UFC gold after a long tenure with the company. Following the shocking club and sub loss to Pena, Amanda Nunes assured all of her supporters that she would return and look to recapture what she lost on that fateful night.

Taking to Instagram, the former two-division champion remains cryptic but the Combate report indicates her leaving ATT is now imminent.

“One step back, three steps forward. “It’s not about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes shared.

In the aftermath, Amanda Nunes felt it was best to change things up after the disappointing title loss. The featherweight champion took a note from Colby Covington’s book and decided to jump ship in order to look for a more comfortable training layout.

While Covington trains at MMA Masters, he made the switch and appears happy with his decision. Interestingly, prior to Nunes’ ATT stint, she also trained at MMA Masters in Miami, FL. As it stands, the 145-pound champion is heavily considering starting her own gym.

Amanda Nunes has already expressed interest in running the fight with Pena back. While fans feel her performance was unlike her usual self, many, including Pena, attribute her lackluster performance partially to the struggles of weight cutting.

ATT remains one of the most powerful MMA gyms in the world. With multiple hubs, the gym environment has produced multiple world champions and contenders. The renowned gym is still the home base for stars like Dustin Poirier and Jorge Masvidal.

What do you make of Amanda Nunes leaving ATT?
