UFC welterweight Michael Chiesa has issued a statement following his unanimous decision defeat to the unbeaten Sean Brady at UFC Vegas 43.

At UFC Vegas 43 inside the Apex, the two welterweight staples took part in a co-main event affair. The fight was exciting with both athletes having notable moments throughout the contest. With Chiesa returning to action after a decisive submission loss to Vicente Luque, The Ultimate Fighter reality series winner was eager to get in the win column.

The story of the bout was Sean Brady‘s ability to wrestle. Many were surprised to see Chiesa, who is known for his grappling, suffer for the majority of the contest out of position. In the early goings of the fight, Brady established the threat of his takedown early and often. Out of eight attempted takedowns, the undefeated 170-pound prospect scored a total of five against “Maverick”. However, he certainly showed marked improvements in his striking repertoire. The once, 4-0 welterweight with all of the hype has come a long way in his new weight division.

“Disappointed I didn’t get the win tonight but I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t have fun out there. Nothing but respect for @seanbradymma and the Philly crew.” Michael Chiesa posted Sunday.

Michael Chiesa Looks Comfortable At 170-Pounds

Even in between rounds, it was evident he was having fun while plying his trade inside the Octagon. The welterweight even channeled his inner Kevin Holland and verbally lamented being taken down by Brady in the middle of the fight. Even though the bout saw the scorecards, the fight was a fun one. Michael Chiesa was on a 4-fight winning streak and gathering momentum quickly when his foray at 170-pounds began. While “Maverick” is now 4-2 at welterweight, surely he will be hovering around the top ten in the division when all is said and done.

Despite Michael Chiesa coming up short, the welterweight proved he belongs with the top-10 in the UFC. The fight was close without a doubt, and Michael Chiesa actually finished the fight in top position raining ground and pound on the younger challenger. While he would end the fight in a favorable position, the last few minutes of the final stanza would not tell the comprehensive story. As the bout concluded, the judges favored the wrestling pressure and volume that Brady was able to implement against a veteran like “Maverick”.
