Finally, the long-anticipated fight between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling is happening. The bout will serve as one of the three title bouts on the blockbuster card on March 6. First reported by MMAJunkie.com, the bantamweight showdown will bring even more action to the card. In addition, bantamweight queen, Amanda Nunes will take on Megan Anderson for the featherweight championship. The night culminates with middleweight kingpin, Israel Adesanya looking to make history and move up against light-heavyweight champion, Jan Błachowicz. However, prior to that action fans can finally see the stylistic match-up between Sterling (19-3) and Yan (15-1).
Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling Clash
Sterling’s aggressive grappling acumen is essential to his success. In fact, a big factor in earning his title shot came after a big submission win over the surging contender, Corey Sandhagen. Since Sterling finished Sandhagen so quickly and emphatically, many believe this opportunity has long been earned. Conversely, UFC bantamweight champion Yan brings a more boxing oriented approach to the cage. However, Sterling’s striking is impressive, but Yan’s boxing abilities are what carried him to the title.
Yan is riding a ten-fight win streak, and momentum like that is very hard to stop. However, the Serra Jiu-Jitsu trained Sterling will certainly be one of that champion’s toughest tests to date. At UFC 259 three titles are on the line and between these two bantamweights, styles will collide and the division will have that much more clarity when all is said and done.
