Gerald “GM3” Meerschaert (31-13) is stepping in on short notice to face veteran Ed Herman (24-14) in a Light Heavyweight bout this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gerald’s last fight was in early June and it is safe to say the end result may have left a bad taste in the fighters mouth and may have urged him to climb back into the octagon as soon as possible. Meerschaert explained how this short notice bout came to fruition.
“Last Tuesday or Wednesday my manager called me and asked me if I was interested and I said I was good and had to double check with the team and make sure everyone was on the same page and we got it done”.
GM3 is coming off a loss to Ian Heinisch (13-3) in his most recent bout. An outcome that the Roufusport fighter did not expect to happen. However, the veteran middleweight is in good spirits and taking the loss the in stride.
“You can look at everything and I could have zigged when I should have zagged. A couple of things I think maybe I got a little too comfortable and other then that I bit on a fake and I got hit with something and its not that I didn’t see it coming I just read it wrong. I wish I could have got reminded in a different way and a different setting but its another reminder that it’s four once gloves anybody can put your lights out if your not ready for it”.
Gerald’s teammate and close friend Brendan Allen (15-3) is a UFC middleweight that is surging up the ladder and someone that we all may see crack the top 10 of the division at some point soon. Allen was supposed to face Heinisch after Ian beat GM3 in early June. The bad blood between Brendan and Gerald’s most recent opponent is clear as day and GM3 helped explain just how good Allen is and what he would expect if those two finally end up tangling inside of the octagon.
“Of course I’m gonna go for my guy Brendan I think he wins for sure. I still think I win in a rematch now that I know that’s the only possible way, not that I have anything against the guy, he was perfectly nice to me before and after. Brendan is a different kind of guy and especially after seeing that he wouldn’t give Ian the space that he needs to throw a punch like that so I think he comes out on top”.
Now GM3 will turn his full attention to the veteran Ed Herman. Gerald feels very confident heading into this fight and does expect to get the finish.
“If it goes to the mat, I feel like a have more moves at my disposal but he is so good and positioning and everything else it will be hard to get to them”.
Gerald continues to predict the most likely outcome.
”I think third round submission”.
