If there is one thing that Movsar Evloev (12-0) and Mike Grundy (12-1) don’t know a lot about, it’s losing. One of them will be getting a firsthand lesson at UFC Fight Night 174.
Evloev, hailing from Russia, is coming to the fight with not a single loss on his professional record. His last two fights were in 2019, both with UFC, and before that he fought with M-1 Global (you know, the guys who do medieval warfare matches).
The 26-year-old fighter has a healthy mix of submission, knockout and decision wins in his impeccable record. This bout will be another box checked on the grind to being a true contender in the UFC featherweight division.
Grundy, a 33-year-old grapple-heavy fighter out of England, is coming into this match with a 9-win streak. This will only be his second bout in the UFC, having fought with a variety of organizations, mostly in Brazil.
Over the course of his 12 wins, Grundy has ended eight with submissions. Whether or not he can use the substantial ground game he honed in Brazil to best Evloev remains to be seen.
With such diverse backgrounds, there’s no telling how this fight plays out. Will the versatile Russian youth be able to overcome the older British grappler? Odds makers are projecting the fight to go the distance, which might be a good sign for Evloev’s past performance in a standing fight. Either way, the match should be interesting.
Evloev (-195) is a moderate favorite over Grundy (+160). It’s hard to say where this fight will land, but if Evloev clinches the victory, he’ll be headed for a main card sometime soon. My bet is on him keeping the flawless professional record alive.
