Tomorrow night, Julian Erosa and Sean Woodson will open up the main card in an exciting Featherweight bout.
When it comes to combat sports, most fighters have the same dream, to one day make it to the UFC. For Julian Erosa (23-8), he took almost every avenue he could to finally end up on the biggest stage.
Erosa built an impressive 16-2 record before making a splash on Season 22 of ”The Ultimate Fighter”. Once on the show, Erosa won his first 3 fights before losing to the SBG product Artem Lobov by KO. After a successful TUF finale win, he was cut due to a loss at the hands of Teruto Ishihara at UFC 196.
With his non-stop grind, Erosa picked up 7 wins outside the UFC Including a KO win over current UFC fighter Jamall Emmers on DW’s contender series. This is how he earned another contract with the UFC. After a 3 fight losing streak, in fights he was highly competitive in, he was subsequently cut again. He picked up a win outside the big show and then this week he happens to be back on a UFC card.
Kyle Nelson was forced to withdraw from his fight with Sean Woodson, so now Erosa will get his 3rd opportunity to fight for the UFC. Erosa is stepping in on less than a week’s notice to take on undefeated Sean Woodson (7-0).
This will literally be the “tallest” test in “Juicy J’s” career with Woodson being the second tallest Featherweight on the planet. Woodson standing at 6’3, Erosa will have to use his footwork that he relies heavily on to both evade and attack.
Erosa has a similar style to Dominick Cruz. He constantly switches stances and throws strikes from unorthodox angles, all while trying to break his opponent’s rhythm. He will need to be on his absolute “A” game to beat this unbeaten striking phenom.
This brings me to his opponent in this guaranteed Gunfight. Sean Woodson, the multiple time Golden Glove Boxing Champion has already put the world on notice. His December battle with the ultra-durable, Kyle Bochniak, allowed the world to see his full arsenal of weapons. At a staggering 6’3 and a 46-3 amateur boxing record, he has some of the best strikings in the organization. Yet, many fans are still unaware of how dangerous this man is.
“The Sniper” Woodson, uses his unreal length to his full advantage when it comes to keeping his opponents at bay. With his lightning-fast hands, well-hidden kicks, plus knees and elbows that come from nowhere, he can put anyone to sleep in a flash. Woodson’s uncanny ability to go to the body and break down his opponent’s foundation is what sets him apart from most of the fight game.
This fight has “SLUGFEST” written all over it and I can almost guarantee it will not see the judge’s scorecards. Will Erosa be able to use his counterpunching abilities to his advantage? Will the “Sniper” Woodson land another fight-ending headshot as he has on almost every other single opponent he’s faced?
Come Saturday these questions will be answered, and a new star could be born. Tune in this Saturday at 8 P.M as these two men will be on the main card, and will be looking to making their names known to MMA fans around the world.
