Kicking off the main card at UFC Fight Night are Mariya Agapova (8-1) and Hannah “Shockwave” Cifers (10-5). At only 23 and 27 years old, respectively, the pair are two of the youngest fighters at the event.
The bout promises to be an exciting one, matching Agapova’s impressive (if somewhat untested) record of submissions against Cifers’ formidable list of striking TKOs. One thing is for certain – both women will be looking to send a message with this fight.
There is a lot of hype online surrounding Agapova, who hails from Kazakhstan but now fights out of Florida with American Top Team. The young fighter has a seemingly high ceiling on her career.
This is only her second fight (technically) within the UFC, the first of which she lost in the Contender Series last July. Since then she has followed up with two first-round wins in Invicta FC bouts. This match against the more experienced Cifers gives her a chance to solidify some of the excitement around her name.
Cifers, on the other hand, needs this win to put an end to a losing streak. She has already suffered two losses earlier this year – in January and May – so this is a chance for her to turn that around.
Physically, Agapova has seven inches of height and four inches of reach on Cifers and is more accustomed to fighting at Flyweight. Cifers has historically fought Strawweight, and she was at 115 pounds for her two fights earlier this year. Agapova will have an additional advantage of fighting in her typical weight class.
Current odds have Agapova (-255) a favorite over Cifer (+215). If you want to roll the dice on Cifers bringing something extra to salvage her career, a bold bet on her could net a nice return.
